Photographs by Judy Howle

I have enjoyed nature photography since I got my first digital camera in 1998. I began photographing birds in 2001 when I obtained my first super zoom digital camera, but I really became interested in birding and bird photography as a hobby about four years ago. I am currently shooting with a Canon 40D camera  and Canon 100 - 400 mm lens.

I make regular trips to the John C. Stennis lock and dam area on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in Columbus, Mississippi. It is only about 3 miles from my house and is a productive location throughout the year. Birds expected include Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, several species of ducks, hawks, coots and assorted small birds. I go to Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge several times a year and to local lakes and sloughs that host a large number of waterfowl in winter. I also enjoy photographing various "yard birds" which I attract with several bird feeders.
