Jim Jacobson was born and in raised in Calgary Alberta, Canada, just
a short distance from the Rocky Mountains. He has been an avid
outdoorsman and sportsman all of his life, spending his holidays and
weekends hiking in the backcountry during the summer and skiing and
snowshoeing in the winter.
As an elementary educator, Jim has had the opportunity to share his
photographs and nature experiences with his students. His most
memorable teaching experience was a trip to a local natural park to
study woodpeckers and red squirrels. The impact on the students, who
often do not have the opportunity to appreciate nature, was quite
profound. This incident led to Jim’s determination to enrich the lives
of others through photography.
Rather new to photography and after considerable research, Jim settled
on the Canon Rebel XT camera. For birds and long distances, he uses the
Canon 300 F4 with a 1.4 extender. For larger animals and flight shots
he uses the Canon 70-200 F2.8 with the extender.
