Kingfisher Park Birdwatcher’s Lodge--Northern Queensland
The cool highlands of northern Queensland are a delight after the searing heat of the Northern Territory. We’re spending a few days in this rainforest haven for birds and birdwatchers alike. Owner/guide Keith Fisher takes us on an excellent dawn bird walk during which we see or hear over 50 species. Nothing beats a local’s knowledge, and soon I have several bird photography projects planned.

Kingfisher Park has a number of bird feeders offering seed and sugar-water. Several honeyeater species visit the latter regularly. Keith tells us they also visit flowering Grevillea trees on the property. Preferring to show them at a natural food source, that’s where I capture this Bridled Honeyeater one afternoon. I used a 500mm lens and fill-flash.
