Photograhs by Jack Smith
I have to make these images; I can’t help it. It’s inside and just has to come out. Sure, I go through periods where I don’t do much with my camera, but I always seem to come back to it. It seems like half my photo gear is always laying in the living room; just nearby, ready. I’ll have some idea for an image or a photo project, and then it becomes a goal or more likely an obsession; I’d rather call it a passion.
Sometimes people ask me how to take good pictures and I tell them that the two things I can point to that really helped me are image posting critique websites and digital cameras. It is amazing what one can learn in a relatively short period of time with a decent digital camera. And, there are so many excellent amateur nature/wildlife photographers out there who are willing to help if you just take the time and listen to what they say. The two critique websites I’ve participated in are www.photomigrations.com and www.naturescapes.net.
I use a Canon 20D digital camera and L-series lenses. For bird photography, I normally use my 500mm f/4.5L telephoto lens and a sturdy Gitzo 340 tripod. If you would like to see more images, please visit my website www.jacksmith-photo.com.
