Photographs by Sean Williams

Sean Williams is 17 years old and lives in urban South Boston. He attends high school at The Newman School in downtown Boston, Massachusetts and is in his senior year.

Sean’s interest in birds started early. On his first day of kindergarten he remembers pointing out a Northern Cardinal (a rarity in South Boston) to his mother.

He visits his aunt and uncle every summer in Oriental, North Carolina, a small town nestled on the central coastal part of the state. There he met Danny Lloyd, an avid bird-watcher and nature photographer. Danny inspired Sean to watch and study birds at his backyard feeding station.

As Sean became even more interested in birds he developed an interest in bird photography as well. He purchased a Nikon D70 in January 2006 and taught himself how to use the professional quality camera. The camera now makes it on most birding trips and many of Sean’s images are on display at a local art gallery.

His friends recognize that he is a talented bird photographer, but still give him a hard time about being a bird watcher.
