Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of Birds of Ohio

Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of Birds of Ohio was published in Circleville, Ohio, during 1879–1886. It is considered to be one of the most notable publications of early American ornithology.

Miss Genevieve Estelle Jones initiated the project and was the principal illustrator of the books (2 volumes) when work began in 1877. Miss Jones died in August of 1879 but the work on the book continued. Illustrations were completed by Mrs. N. E. Jones and Miss Eliza  J. Schultz.  Miss Schultz had been a co-illustrator of the project from the beginning.

Miss Josephine Kleppart and Miss Kate Gephart hand colored each of the lithographs. Miss Nellie D. Jacob colored the eggs.

The text of the book was completed by Dr. Howard Jones, Genevieve’s younger brother.

The book was published by subscription; it is believed that no more than 100 copies were ever produced.
