Bird Distribution
Where are the birds found?
Bird distribution is usually represented by a range map or by simple points on a map.
Here are two maps that show the distribution of White-throated Sparrow across North America.
The first is a range map from our Online Bird Guide species
account for White-throated Sparrow. This map is the result of many
years of casual and scientific observations across the country.
Range maps are published in printed bird guides, too, and provide a
good indication of where a species is to be found and what time of year
it is there (see legend).
The second map represents the year-end summary of Project FeederWatch
counts of White-throated Sparrows for the 2001-2002 count season. See Abundance for an explanation of Mean Group Size.
This Project FeederWatch species map gives us an idea of both the
distribution and relative abundance for this species: where the birds
are and how many are there in a given year.
