Spring Birds of Sapsucker Woods Diorama

This collection of specimens represents a small sample of the spring birds visible in Sapsucker Woods. Enjoy getting up-close and personal to these colorful harbingers of Spring.

Many of the beautiful exhibits on display in the Visitors' Center are the product of a Lab member's generosity or the result of time spent developing an educational experience.  Some, however, are the product of timing and dumb luck.  The Spring Birds of Sapsucker Woods Diorama is one of the latter!

Two dioramas were found in the old white barn during its renovation.  Both dioramas were made in 1848 by a taxidermist from Homer, NY, named V. Carpinter.  Unfortunately, one of the cases had sustained extensive water damage, but the second case survived and is now on display in the Visitors' Center near the front desk
