Rufous hummingbirds follow a coastal route in spring but travel an inland route across alpine meadows in fall, tracking areas with the most abundant flowers. Although it?s a myth that hummingbirds ride on the backs of geese, Rufous Hummingbirds have been known to alight on ships in the Gulf of Alaska.
