Bird Quiz

Test your bird knowledge and earn a chance to win Voices of North American Owls (see the accompanying BirdScope article).

Getting the Sting Out: This medium-sized songbird loves to munch on bees and wasps. After catching them in flight and smacking them against a branch to kill them, it is even clever enough to remove the stinger.

Hint: You can watch video of this red bird by visiting the All About Birds video gallery www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/VideoGallery.html. Confirm that it eats bees by reading the species account in the Online Bird Guide www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide.

Send your answers by September 30, 2006, to birdscope@cornell.edu. Write "Bird Quiz" in the subject line. A winner will be randomly selected from those who send in the correct answer. Congratulations to George Oetzel, of Boulder, Colorado, who won the last quiz with the answer Tennessee, Connecticut, and Cape May warblers.
