Black-throated Green Warbler (Dendroica virens)
Recordings of an Observed Bird
Date- 26 September 2004 Location- Caroline, Tompkins Co. New York
Notes: What follows are recordings of 2 Black-throated Green Warblers made during a 30 minute session. The two warblers were moving through a shrubby field in close proximity to a Blue-headed Vireo and several Black-capped Chickadees. Both the call note and flight calls were recorded.
Example 1: Flight Call of Black-throated Green Warbler. First a Blue-headed Vireo is heard singing. At 1 sec is the Black-throated Green Warbler flight call (ascending seep). Finally a flight call of a Black-capped Chickadee can be heard. Additionally an American Crow is calling. (click on the spectrogram for sound recording).
Example 1a: Zoom of the Black-throated Green Warbler flight call (above).
Example 2: Likely the same bird as in example 1. The flight call of the Black-throated Green Warbler is at 1 sec. Before the flight call you can hear a Blue-headed Vireo song, and after a Black-capped Chickadee. The last call on the spectrogram (below) is the flight call of the Black-capped Chickadee, which I find sounds very similar to the call note of the Black-throated Green Warbler. (click on the spectrogram to hear sound).
Example 2 (zoom): The recording was made a very close range (within 3 meters) with a parabolic reflector. Note the very short (@50 msec) multibanded ascending seep.
