Recordings of Observed Birds

Date- 29 May 2006 between 1000 and 1045    Location: Creamery Rd. Caroline, Tompkins Co. New York  (42.37962   -76.35202)

Notes: These recordings were made of 2 male Common Yellowthroats. The males were actively establishing their territory boundaries and at one point aggressively came in contact with each other. The habitat was an old farm field that is turning to brush. Many of the recordings were made near a large wild rose thicket. Distances from the birds were between 2 and 5 meters.  The primary vocalizations below are flight calls from one of the 2 males. Included are several examples of contact calls, as well as the sequences between contact and flight calls.

Other birds that can be hear in the files (below) are: Red-eyed Vireo, Tufted Titmouse, American Robin, and Indigo Bunting.

Flight Call:

This sequence was given as a male Common Yellowthroat aggressively flew towards another male.

Flight call/ Contact Call

This sequence is of the male flying away after the aggressive interaction. The bird was in flight when all three vocalizations were recorded. Note how the second flight call is softer and not as well recorded.

Recordings of Observed Birds

Date- 26 May 2005 Location- Caroline, Tompkins Co. New York

Notes: A male Common Yellowthroat flying around territory primarily giving alarm call. These recordings were made when the bird flew from one perch to another. The flight note is an unmusical buzzy dzip (Dunn and Garrett Warblers) centered around 5 kHz and lasting about 50 msec.
