Looking for an easy, engaging way to get your child outside, observing nature and learning important science content at the same time? The Science Investigator's Kit for Homeschoolers is a ready-to-go kit of curriculum resources and student activities designed to foster scientific and creative thinking. 

Focusing on habitat biodiversity and the identification of winter feeder birds, the Science Investigator's Kit uses Project FeederWatch, a winter season bird identification and counting citizen science program, to teach kids effective observation and questioning skills.

With the Science Investigator's Kit for Homeschoolers, students...

  • Learn about habitat, diversity and the scientific process through a series of hands-on, inquiry-based science lessons.
  • Observe feeder birds and submit their data through the Project FeederWatch citizen-science program.
  • Ask and investigate their own biology questions.

In this kit, you'll get the resources you need teach science content through hands-on, engaging lessons:

  • Lesson plans, student journals, and a resource guide that make learning through inquiry easy and fun!
  • A CD-Rom that includes informative slide shows, videos, and printable resources.
  • Membership in the Project FeederWatch (PFW) Citizen Science Project and a PFW kit, which includes easy instructions, a colorful feederbird poster, access to bird data, and more!
  • Two useful books: a field guide to backyard birds, created especially for young naturalists, and a bird log journal for recording birding experiences.

The kit was designed especially for young readers (approximately ages 6-10) but is easily adaptable for older students and mixed groups!
