Inquiry is important in today's classrooms, and BirdSleuth provides an ideal way to teach science process through engaging, hands-on activities, citiizen science, and authentic scientific research!

First, choose a module depending on your interests and the content that you need to teach:

Most Wanted Birds

  • girls_hanging_feeder
    Audience:
This module was tested and developed in grade 4-8 classrooms, but we've had kindergarten teachers and college professors all use the program successfully!
  • Key Concepts:  Diversity, Scientific Inquiry, Science Process Skills
  • Teachers Love: It's easy to connect science to math and technology because the students are collecting, submitting, and using citizen science data.  The kids love the fact that their data is being used by real scientists. Older students especially like the connection to Cornell University scientists. The activities are hands-on, engaging, and get kids outside for authentic research!

Exploring Bird Behavior:

  • Audience: This module was designed for upper elementary, middle school, and early high school classrooms.
  • Key Concepts:  Behavior, Animal Intelligence, Adaptations and Diversity, Science Process Skills
  • Teachers Love: Students find animal behavior fascinating, and female students tend to be very engaged in bird behavior! It's easy to connect science to math because students are collecting their own data.  Kids enjoy using the tools (stopwatches and tally counters) that help them feel like real behavioral researchers. The bird behavior videos on the DVD are stunning!  Students are very engaged with designing their own research projects.
