Exploring Bird Behavior Version 2 Released
The revised EBB module contains more lessons, new student and resource pages, a student toolkit, and scaffolds TWO citizen science projects: CrowsCount and CamClickrs!
Tell your students--revision isn't just for homework! The BirdSleuth team has been working tirelessly since the summer to overhaul the entire Exploring Bird Behavior curriculum, adding lessons, student materials, new posters and multimedia, and a brand new student toolkit.
The study of animal behavior is called "ethology," and with this newly revamped module, you can easily introduce your students to exciting areas of research, such as animal intelligence, nesting and other routine bird activities, corvid group dynamics, and more! Students are naturally interested in animal behaviors, and birds provide an accessible, easy-to-understand entry into this exciting field of study.

One of the truly exciting additions to the module is the inclusion of a new student toolkit. Like the BirdSleuth Focus Cards help students using the Most Wanted Birds curriculum learn how to identify bird species, the Exploring Bird Behavior toolkit provides you with two important tools for collecting behavioral data: a BirdSleuth stopwatch and tally counter! With these easy-to-use tools at your class's disposal, designing and carrying out methods for original research becomes that much easier. Imagine the questions your students could answer using these tools:
- How long do birds perch on feeders after eating?
- How long will an American Robin spend pulling a single worm from the ground?
- How many times will I see a crow use a tool today?
