The After-School Corporation (TASC) is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that works to change public policy and expand public funding so all kids from all backgrounds can have high quality experiences beyond regular school hours that support their intellectual, creative and healthy development. TASC develops and promotes models for after-school and summer programs that demonstrably improve kids’ school engagement, motivation, and achievement at a cost public funding can sustain, and that keep kids safe while parents work. Hog Island Audubon Camp

Located off the Maine coast, beautiful Hog Island is the sight of research and educational programs. Audubon’s first Nature Study Camp for teachers and adult students was launched at Hog Island in 1936.  By working with teachers, Hog Island hopes to encourage a widespread concern for the conservation of wildlife and natural resources. Hog Island is part of the Todd Audubon Sanctuary, which includes 30 acres of woods and meadows on the mainland, as well as the 330-acre Hog Island located 1/4 mile offshore.

 

National Science Teachers Association

The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) aims to “promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all.”  Founded in 1944 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, the NSTA is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all.  Members of the NSTA include science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in and committed to science education.


The Pepperwood Preserve

The Pepperwood Preserve is an ecological institute dedicated to educating, engaging, and inspiring its community through habitat preservation, science-based conservation, leading-edge research, and interdisciplinary educational programs. Located on 3,120 acres in Sonoma County in Northern California, about an hour drive from San Francisco, the preserve is a sanctuary for wildlife, flora, and fauna.  Its mission is to steward the life and landscapes of the preserve and to advance conservation.


PRBO Conservation Science

PRBO Conservation Science (PRBO) is a non-profit organization founded in 1965 as Point Reyes Bird Observatory.  PRBO Conservation Science is dedicated to conserving birds, other wildlife, and ecosystems through innovative scientific research and outreach.  PRBO does bird ecology research, creates management tools, leads field science training programs, and develops and delivers bird science education programs to advance biodiversity conservation in the west on land and at sea. PRBO scientists study birds because they are excellent indicators of environmental health: they are top predators, relatively inexpensive to monitor and widely distributed.  It is dedicated to protecting all birds from Alaska to Antarctica, on land or sea.

 

The Sciencenter

The Sciencenter in Ithaca, NY aims to inspire excitement for science through interactive exhibits and programs that engage, educate, and empower. It hopes to empower every young person so that they may use science to shape a better future.  The Sciencenter looks to provide a clean, safe, and accessible setting for learning, where values of innovation and sustainability are readily enforced.  The Sciencenter encourages the long-term stewardship of the environment and the economy through education and action, and strives to maintain high levels of quality, accuracy, and integrity in all its activities.

 

Saint Louis Zoo

Located in the Missouri, the Saint Louis Zoo aims to conserve animals and their habitats through animal management, research, recreation, and educational programs that encourage the support and enrich the experience of the public.  The zoo promotes environmental stewardship and community leadership, at the international level, while providing an engaging, sound scientific environment for building knowledge. Integrity is a key value.  In 2010, the Saint Louis Zoo celebrated 100 years of education and conservation. 

 

St. Marks and St. Vincent Wildlife Refuges in the North Florida Wildlife Refuge Complex

The St. Marks Wildlife Rufuge was established in 1931 to provide wintering habitat for migratory birds. It is one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System. It encompasses 68,000 acres spread out between Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties along the Gulf Coast of northwest Florida. The refuge includes coastal marshes, islands, tidal creeks and estuaries of seven north Florida rivers. It is home to a diverse community of plant and animal life.

The St. Vincent Wildlife Refuge was established in 1968, and encompasses 12,490 acres across two Florida counties. St. Vincent is an undeveloped coastal barrier island with representative native plant and animal species. In particular, the refuge is a major migratory stop-over for nesting bald eagles and loggerhead turtles.  Its major objectives are to provide habitat for migratory birds and to protect threatened and endangered species, such as the American alligator and bald eagle. They also seek to provide wild-life dependent recreation and environmental education for the public.

 

Texas Audubon

Audubon Texas is the state program of the National Audubon Society.  Audubon’s mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity. Through Audubon Centers and in partnership with local chapters, Audubon Texas connects people of all ages and backgrounds to nature through its conservation and education programs.  It is committed to ensuring that every child in Texas participates in a natural resource education program that will improve critical thinking skills while connecting students to nature. Texas Audubon consists of over 20,000 members from 21 chapters and 11 ecoregions. We have benefited from our work with the Audubon Center at Trinity River.  


The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art at Salisbury University in Maryland is an arm of the Ward Foundation, which dedicates itself to promoting wildfowl art and preserving the legacy of Lem and Steve Ward – the renown decoy carvers of the 20th century.  The Ward Museum builds upon the legacy of Lem and Steve Ward in order to bring young and old to a greater understanding of the human relationship to the natural world. Established in 1975, it advances the understanding of wildfowl art and the interrelationships of art, nature and culture. Through educational programs, exhibits and events, The Ward Museum is dedicated to exhibiting, collecting and promoting wildfowl art and related materials, and interpreting their significance through educational programs and publications.
