License Information

Number of Computers

Licensing for Raven is based on the number of computers on which the software will be concurrently used. You can install the software on any number of computers, but you must purchase licenses for each computer on which the software will be used at any one time. For example, if you use Raven Pro at home and at work, and if you are never using Raven at home and at work at the same time, then you only need one license for the two computers. If you use Raven on a Windows PC and a Macintosh computer but never at the same time, then you need only one license. If you use Raven on two computers at the same time, then you need to purchase two licenses.

Raven Pro - Commercial license

This license option is intended for corporations conducting research using Raven Pro or anyone making money by using Raven Pro, including charging money for images or access to images that were created using Raven Pro. The basic single-user commercial license fee for Raven is $800. This license is not intended for anyone who wants to use Raven Pro in a public display setting or for anyone who is charging an admission price for access to Raven Pro. Anyone wishing to use Raven Pro in a public setting such as in a museum or zoo exhibit should contact us for licensing terms for Raven Pro or Raven Exhibit.

Please note: It may take as long as 2 business days for you to receive your Raven Pro license information.

Raven Pro - Subscription License

This license option is intended for academic researchers, government agency researchers, non-profit researchers, and individuals conducting personal research which is not to be used to make a profit. It is not available to commercial customers. The license expires one year from the date of purchase, at which time Raven will stop working. The basic single-user research subscription license fee for Raven Pro is $100 per year. Fees for subscription licenses are not applicable to any other Raven licenses that may be purchased later.

Please note: It may take as long as 2 business days for you to receive your Raven Pro license information.

Raven Pro - Instructional License

This license option is available to instructors at academic institutions. The basic instructional license fee of $400 provides for installation and concurrent use on up to four (4) instructional machines. An instructional machine is one owned by the licensing institution on which Raven Pro will be used exclusively for coursework. This may include lab, classroom, or field work. Personal machines and machines on which Raven Pro is not used exclusively for coursework are specifically excluded. Additional instructional licenses can be purchased for $100 per machine. Note that $400 is the minimum price for this type of license -- you cannot just pay $200 to install on two machines.

Instructors may evaluate Raven Pro on a single computer as a teaching tool for free for six (6) months. This allows them to experience how Raven can be used in the classroom.

Please note: It may take as long as 2 business days for you to receive your Raven Pro license information.

Raven Pro - Student License

Any student (K-12; undergraduate or graduate education at a college or university) is eligible to purchase a one-year student license for $100. You must provide the name and email address of your instructor or advisor so we can verify your student status. These licenses expire one year after the date of purchase, at which time Raven Pro will stop working. You can renew the subscription for free by writing to us to confirm that you are still a student. Once we confirm this with your instructor or advisor, we will send you a license good for another year.

Please note: It may take as long as 2 business days for you to receive your Raven Pro license information.

Raven Pro - Student Semester Class License

These student licenses expire six months after the date of purchase, at which time Raven will stop working. Fees for student licenses are not applicable to any other Raven licenses that may be purchased later. Student licenses provide a way that students can install Raven on their personal computers to use for the duration of a course.

In order for a course to be approved for student licensing, the instructor must purchase at least one $400 single-user or instructional license, and must contact us to arrange student licensing at raven_orders@cornell.edu or 607-254-2408. We will then provide information to the course instructor detailing the procedure for students to purchase licenses.
