Birds in Art/Art in Birds Entries, 161-170

161. Tim Dingus, Roscoe, Illinois

This picture was shot at a local park district bird sanctuary.  We were doing a brochure to help them raise money to build new cages and observations, etc.  I was able to go inside the cage with the injured birds.  This Bald Eagle has a broken wing....others have missing eyes, nerve damage, etc.

I enjoy drawing birds and I am entering my pictures in memory of my dove Ash that died.

165. Kristen Picciolo, Vero Beach, Florida

My reason for submitting this entry is I love to photograph things in nature and I thought it was funny how this little bird was jumping around from branch to branch in my back yard, so I thought it would make a great picture.

166. Laura Gaddie, Salt Lake City, Utah

"Birds of a Feather."

I'm attracted to the symmetry of birds, the hard line precision and the vibrant colors. They're a unique species, a huge variety, flying or standing, always striking a pose. I would love to photograph birds but that requires patience and equipment. I use an interpretive approach to capture their flight and color. They're fun creatures to watch, always busy, something to do, some place to go in a poetic space.

167. Thomas Will, Belmont, North Carolina

The name of my watercolor pencil drawing is "Blue Bird In Garden." I'm entering this drawing because I see Blue Birds at my Grandma's house and I just love them. That's why I drew the Blue Bird picture. I like birds because they fly, and I've always wanted to fly.

168. Alexandra Simeon, St Paul, Minnesota

I made this picture of these birds (left to right)

top: hummingbird, bald eagle, bluebird

bottom: mourning dove, english sparrow

I chose these birds because I think they are beautiful, and they show how birds come big and small. We live on the bluffs of the river in St. Paul and get to see the bald eagles when we drive along the river and when we go to Mounds Park. I love how they glide and sit in one spot while they ride the wind. I love sparrows because they are small and cute and we see them all over.

I want to live in the country but we live in the city and the squirrels and birds are most of the wildlife that we see around our house. We just moved into our house and I am helping plan what to plant to give the animals places to live, food, and shelter.

I bring it in at night so it will be warm in the mornings. This was snow couple weeks ago..Priceless.

170. Sallie Natz Bailey, Fayetteville, New York

Some people to whom I showed this poem objected to the title - but we were so upset with this bird - that it took the form of anger - OK - whatever happens is your own darn fault!

Dumb Bird!

You built your nest under
the porch eaves
too close to the railing
we knocked it down
day after day
but you wouldn’t be discouraged

we knew
it was not a safe place
for you
for the eggs you’d lay
but each day
you replaced yesterday’s debris
until we tired of the contest
retired
let you build unhindered

yesterday morning
the egg shells
their contents consumed
lay shattered before
the door
