Birds in Art/Art in Birds Entries, 31-40

31. Emily DeLia, East Windsor, New Jersey,  youth entry

This poem was written by my seven-year-old homeschooled daughter. We were discussing the poetry technique called onomatopeia - a big word that means a word is what it sounds like (drip, quack and splash are all examples). Her job was to write a poem about something and use lots of onomatopeic words. Well she picked a topic whose name is itself an example of onomatopeia - a chickadee. She got the idea from looking out our large sliding glass doors at the all of the chickadees at our feeders. Here it is, filled with words that sound like chickadees! Mary Delia

The Chirping Chickadee

by Emily DeLia
age 7

The chickadee sits in a tree
With delicious seeds to eat.
Then off she flies like a bee,
And darts around the tree.
What a delightful, divine song
Sings the chickadee.
Dear chickadee, with a dancing song,
Flies and flits and flees!

33.  Josephine Quintella

I love to watch the geese as they form a v and fly over my house, I enjoy knowing they neither work for food or worry about tomorrow, their creator always provides for them.

34.  John Holland, Marathon, New York

Thought I would share, this was a first for me...Enjoy!

 36.  Sheri Bruington, Havre, Montana

This photo of a backlit Mountain Bluebird taken in the small community of Hays, Montana seems to have meaning for everyone who looks at it.  Some people see an impressionistic painting, some see an angel and some see a representation of Christ. Mountain Bluebirds were extremely scarce in Montana, but due to an extensive birdhouse project they have come back beautifully.

This photo of these 3 sweet Eastern or Western Screech Owl owlets was taken right in the city park in Havre, Montana.  This picture always makes me smile thinking "Splish splash, 3 owlets taking a bath!"

37. Patrick O'Byrne,  Dublin, Georgia

I thought this drawing would be great to show for your "Art in Birds". Owls are my favorite bird because they are great hunters day or night.

38. Sofie Sauri, Perry, Georgia

This is my pet Poopsie, in an oil portrait, 16x20 canvas…I call it "Daydream" and he probably does too.  He is wrapped in a towel but dreams of tropical trees, ponds and warmth. Poopsie is a 'quacker' or Monk Parakeet.  He has always been in captivity. These birds fly free in Florida and there is even a community in Connecticut.  They are considered agricultural menaces in 6 states.  I sure wish Poopsie would eat more veggies.

39. Szu Chia Sun,  Little Neck, New York

This photo shows the awesomeness of mother's love. I was standing on the other side, watching the mommy duck leading her children to the lake, those cute baby ducks are trying to follow her step by step. The mommy duck looks so happy and content, I can almost feel the joy of birth. It's a art of nature that shows caring and loving.

40. Jill Hayward, British Columbia, Canada

I submitted this photo because it shows a very ancient art of birds in art.  This eagle totem in Campbell River, BC, looked more than a little nostalgic  with a modern day eagle in the fir tree above.

Eagle Totem

I submitted this photo because it is art in the beauty of this colorful bluebird in an otherwise drab landscape.

Bluebird

I submitted this photo because it shows a crow ready to create his own art piece with the pen he picked up in the grass outside of my office window. he was quite fascinated with it and spent some time packing it around; perhaps looking for that elusive piece of paper?

Crow with pen

I submitted this photo because I feel that birds can always create their own form of art. These two young eagles, soaring in a clear blue sky do look like they are flying over the moon.

I submitted this photo because it looks like this vibrant peacock is made up of tiny iridescent jewels – an art in itself.

I submitted this photo because the ability to fly is an art in itself. This Kestrel shows just how well he has it mastered.

I submitted this photo because I think the magpie is a truly beautiful bird – not just black and white – but a multitude of colors. This bird had three chicks and she was raucously squawking at them to get into their nest as quickly as possible because there was a human with a camera coming.
