85. Justin Julian,New South Wales,Australia

My Tasmanian Wedge - Tailed Eagle art work is in watercolour and pencil.
I chose to put the eagle against some Tasmanian pink granite boulders. They nest up high on rocks and cliff faces, so I decided a strong, close profile of the bird in repose would make a good picture. Inspiration for this picture came from a holiday to New Zealand, where I was able to visit the Wingspan Bird of Prey Centre. On returning to Australia, I  became interested in researching the majestic Eagle, which is endangered due to farmers shooting them and other people giving them poisoned meat. Another reason is that each pair of birds produce only one egg a year.

86. James Julian,New South Wales,Australia

I have created an artwork with the endangered Princess Parrot poised on a branch. It is in watercolour and pencil and became an inspiration for me when I became involved in the New South Wales Bird Atlassers inc, when I was eight. Because my family began to take note of the local native birds, this led on to discovering the endangered birds of Australia. Of these, the princess parrot became my favourite.

It is becoming increasingly rare because of feral sheep, rabbits and camels which eat its food, in Interior Northern Australia.  I am so lucky to live surrounded by so many native birds in the city; sulphur crested cockatoos, kookaburras, rainbow lorikeets and so many finches, sea birds, honey eaters and parrots. We also have a cockatiel, which arrived in our lavender bush!!!

87. Rachel Dorr, Athens, New York

My name is Rachel and I am in 5th grade. I have many inspirations about birds. During the seasons, there are many different birds where I live. Sometimes the birds sit on our roof or in the trees and even swim in the lake. When I lay on our hammock, I look up and see baby birds in their nest, sometimes being fed by their mothers. I love drawing and birds are a great inspiration.

87.5. Julia Dorr, Athens, New York

My name is Julia Dorr and I am 9 years old. I made a picture about three loons swimming down the Hudson River. I enjoy boating, but walking along the River and watching the birds is also fun. I enjoyed watching all the birds and nature nearby, so I decided to do the picture of the loons.

"After snowing, a female Cardinal perched on the branch.Everything was covered with snow. However, only the bird stood out there. The sight looked like a postcard."

89. Melanie Abbott, Cabot, Arkansas

My name is Melanie Abbott, I am 8 years old. I enjoy watching birds with my father and hanging bird houses. I love to paint and draw. Drawing birds in nature from the woods where I live makes me happy.
My drawing is made with colored pencils by blending the different colors to bring out the natural color of the birds and their habitat.

90. Natalie Frontera

While I was painting my picture of a bird, I felt like my paintbrush was guiding me and telling me the way I should paint.  It was pretty neat.  I think that this is the best painting I have made in my life so far.  I think I did really good and was very creative.  I really wanted to do this contest because I thought it would be pretty cool if I took a picture of a bird and then drew it myself!  I think this was a great contest for me and it also put me back into practicing my paintings.  I think while I drew the bird I got way better at painting.  I am really proud of myself and will always be.
