I submitted this photo to show people that seagulls can be friendly. It is normal for these birds to go after food, because they do not know the rules regarding people's lunches. We need to share the beaches with them, this is their home; they live here long after summer is gone. We need to teach our children not to chase them and throw things at them. Some of these gulls are handicapped and are missing legs or eyes, or have broken wings. Although these birds are totally wild and free, they have allowed me the gift of learning about their habits and behaviors by interacting with me. I was inspired when I had surgery and had to get a metal plate to replace some bones. While I up at the beach, I saw a gull bleeding with a crushed leg. After that I became friends with a rehabilitator and together we worked to help these injured seagulls.
