I was sitting at work in Washington, DC, when I glanced up, then said to my boss, "There's a hawk outside your window!" Sure enough, we crept up and peeked at the magnificent Red-Tailed Hawk, perched on the balcony railing about 3 feet from our windows. The hawk was so intent on scouting prey in Franklin Park below that it sat there for several minutes, so we really got to enjoy his beauty. He was magnificent as he soared down into the park (though I'm sure the pigeons below weren't so happy to see him!) Absolutely the closest I've ever been to a hawk and what a great experience to see such beauty close up and personal! Truly an urban bird encounter!
