There is a very quaint, cute, fun 'little green place' I discovered during my last trip to Gettysburg, PA,  located in the gardens at the Farnsworth House Inn.  The side of their bookstore is covered in ivy, and contains at least 50 bird houses in various sizes, shapes and themes.  This little green place is perfect for birds because it has ivy, a neighborhood of bird houses, trees, koi ponds, waterfalls and flowers.

My little green place is in our back yard, a magnolia tree. They love
this tree because it's huge. I have bird feeders hanging and they love
to nest here.

My Little Green Place was the lawn around our old house close to Cold Lake, Alberta.
It was a good place for the birds. They had lots of food, trees to hide and rest, as well as a place without chemicals used in gardening.
The horses waterer was at one time used by 8 bluebirds to drink and cool down.
The Sparrow we rescued out the mouth of the cats. The little Woodpecker was dropped by our cats on the garage floor. We fed him over night and then released him the next morning.
When my husband went looking the next day if he can still see him in the back of our property, he flew back to him, landed on his outstretched hand and he carried him back to the house.
This afternoon he died and we had the strong feeling he came back to us to have a safe spot to go on to Bird-Heaven.

My little green place is on my fire escape, facing 18th Ave in Brooklyn,  NY.
It's good for birds (Monk Parakeets, pigeons, doves, sparrows, an American
Kestrel,)  because I make food & water available.

The Natural Bridge in Virginia is a park that is surrounded by nature’s beauty.  As you walk under the rock bridge formation you follow a small tributary filled with small fish, water snakes and this little Green Heron.

finches hatched

My little green place is our side and back yard right in the middle of the city. We had a set of finches nest in my mom's ivy and also a set of doves too. In our backyard we had a pair of mocking bird babies, and we get regular visits from a Great Egret, as well as a pair of hawks that will talk back and forth with my mom when she whistles for them.We keep plenty of water supplies for the birds we have a fountain in front a bird bath on the side and another fountain in the backyard. We were very excited to be a part of helping all those baby birds this summer.

My little green place is right outside my window overlooking my back yard in the small town of Tecumseh in southern Michigan.  I have four feeders and two bird baths nestled between a few pine trees.  The little White-breasted Nuthatch shown in the hand painted linoleum relief print is a year-round visitor.  He keeps me company on cold winter days.  I enjoy watching him dart between the pines and the nut feeder and I like the fact that he doesn't seem to mind sharing his meal with his Downy Woodpecker friends.  Anyway, my little green place in my backyard would feel a little empty if I didn't hear an "ank, ank" now and then.

bird in wreath

Here's my little green space... My front door!
This little group of purple finch babies hatched in their nest Mom and Dad so creatively placed between a wreath of grapevine and silk flowers RIGHT on my front door. Three of four eggs made it, and all three babies successfully left the nest. We know the 4th didn't because that's sadly how we discovered those finches weren't just stealing bits off the wreath, they were building IN it.
My husband flung the door open one evening and an egg fell out. Whah. Thereafter, no one used the front door again until late June.
In addition to being a covered and sheltered place out of the wind and direct sun, I grow a combination of flowering perennials and annuals (this year a bumper crop of Morning Glories over took everything) around the front and have also had a nest of starlings and Robins in/on/around the house, and three nests (1 each catbird, mockingbird and cardinal) in a tall hedgerow between our home and a neighbors. The front door nest was our favorite because my two children ages three and five could visit the babies each night and see them grow from fleshy little bug-eyed things nearly indistinguishable as birds to feathered fledglings. The parents frequently perched in a Cleveland Pear tree we planted near the street and always sat at the very tippy-top making the male especially easy to spot. Note the wreath had bells on it which didn't seem to bother the birds one bit, nor did my three large dogs. Last year the finches attempted to nest over the light next to the door and we chased them off. This year they were craftier!  I replaced the wreath with something a little sturdier and I've no doubt that they'll return.

I whistle trained these Eastern Bluebirds to come and eat the meal worms whenever I put them out. The male then brought the babies that he was taking care of while his mate was hatching another nest.
