Field Marks documentary

film in progress

Rosen, Field Marks Film

There will be many stories in the  new documentary about bird watchers called 'Field Marks'.  There are 47 million bird watchers in America but we usually hear more about the birds than the watchers.

Co-producer and co-director Josephine Martorana writes:

"Determination can be as transparent as the lens of a binocular - but if you look into the wrong end, you'll see something distorted - something distant. The feature-length documentary Field Marks goes beyond the stereotypes, behind the binoculars and gazes into the squinted eyes of the birdwatcher.

Field Marks bypasses the conventional approach of birdwatching as pastime and instead examines birdwatching as a motivating force; a thread weaving distinct personalities into a fabric that covers ideas of conservation, solace, ambition and wonder - it is simultaneously a chronicle of personal and natural history.

Our list of urban subjects includes Jonathan Rosen, (pictured above) who birdwatches in Central Park frequently and also wrote Life of The Skies: Birding at the End of Nature, as well as Andrea Lansing who is the founder of www.localbirding.com, a website that focuses on the Avian Life of New York City, with a concentration on Brooklyn.

The co-directors and co-producers of Field Marks also reside in Brooklyn, NY.
