Watching Sparrows

Gordillo_Sparrow3Good morning Birdwatchers of America

Let me start by introducing myself; my name is David, I come to you from Hialeah, Florida where I help run a family business.

I first took an interest in the House Sparrow on a day when they chipped so loudly in the alley behind my shop that my employees asked me what that sound was and where was it coming from. I knew they were birds but I did not know the type. So I took interest for the very first time. Gordillo_Sparrow2

I have been watching these birds and learned that they were House Sparrows. In doing my research I learned the type of bird they are and that they are declining in population.

The last few days I have been watching six pairs of House Sparrows. I've noticed them gathering weeds for their nests. Their nests are holes in walls of the surrounding buildings. They have about five holes. I've heard little chips as one female crawled into the hole. So I believe there are young chicks.

In addition, to the sparrows there have been six European Starlings and two Mourning Doves.

Gordillo_Sparrow4Every morning like clockwork the sparrows are up and flying around at 7:00am. They have to do this because at 7:30am like clockwork the European Starlings begin hovering over trying to crawl into their nest.

Around this time I have noticed and seen that the House Sparrows are chipping loudly and flying near their nest. By 8:00am the European Starlings are gone and the Sparrows are calm.

See you in the Future!
