What tools will you need to Celebrate Urban Birds?
Celebrate Urban Birds Kit
The kits are free, fun, and indispensable to participation. If you are an organization or group leader, please make sure to order enough kits to distribute to the public. Kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include:
--introductory letter with 16 drawings of focal urban birds
--an urban birds poster with lots of interesting information
--a silhouette poster with cool facts
--a simple data form for recording your observations
--return envelope
--a packet of sunflower seeds to plant in pots and gardens.
- Tally Sheet.
This tally sheet is a great resource for group leaders, families, and individuals who want a simple, visual tally sheet to take out into the field to record observations. Please transfer all data from your Tally Sheets to the data form...or even better enter them on our online data entry system.
- Bird Guide
Use this online guide to help you learn about the 16 focal species. The bird guide includes great photos and great information. If you'd like to download a bird guide to take with you when you bird, please click here.
- Power Point Slide Show. This slide show will help you and your participants learn the Celebrate Urban Birds focal species that you will watch for during the 10-minute bird observation:
In the east you will watch for Baltimore Oriole and in the west you will watch for Bullock's Oriole...this PPT will help you see the difference and clarify which one to look for, as well as get to know the other birds. Great photos and fun facts!
