Conference Overview

An invitational conference, to be held June 20th-23rd, 2007, will bring approximately 50 citizen science practitioners to the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, in Ithaca, NY, to refine the Citizen Science Toolkit.

To ensure that the Citizen Science Toolkit will be a resource for the broadest range of projects, the conference will solicit input from diverse citizen science programs and practitioners.

Invited participants will examine, discuss, and refine emerging models for citizen science through panel discussions and case studies.

Ideas generated during the conference also will be used to adapt and further refine the Citizen Science Toolkit. We anticipate that the conference will launch a practitioner community that will grow beyond the conference participants and which will refine, pilot test, and assess Toolkit materials.

The application process is now closed, with over 100 applications received. As we cannot accommodate everyone we would like to at the June conference, we will soon be launching a web forum. Accessible through the Toolkit link of www.citizenscience.org, this forum will invite feedback on materials in development, and will facilitate the sharing of questions, innovations, and expertise between practitioners in this community.
