Linda Green

Linda is an ardent proponent and supporter of volunteer monitoring. She has been Program Director of the University of Rhode Island Watershed Watch Program, a scientist-led volunteer monitoring program, since its inception in 1988. This program, with over 400 volunteers intensively monitoring over 250 sites from salt to fresh water, promotes active volunteer monitoring, informal educational outreach and generates virtually all the of the RI lake water quality monitoring data. She leads the USDA NIFA Volunteer Water Quality National Facilitation Project, which seeks to support, the vitality, visibility and viability of volunteer monitoring programs across the country. She was the sole volunteer monitoring representative on the National Water Quality Monitoring Council from 1997-2009, and co-chaired its 2002 and 2006 biennial conferences. She is a longtime member of the editorial board of The Volunteer Monitor newsletter. She is the treasurer of the North American Lake Management Society and is a founding member of its New England chapter. She holds a BS in Natural Resources and an MS in Resource Chemistry both from the University of Rhode Island. On increasingly rare occasions she actually gets a chance go on the water and monitor.
