Lake Meade POA Environmental Education Initiative

A community education program focusing on incorporation of Best Management Practices for controlling lake pollution and storm water runoff.

Lake Meade POA Environmental Education Initiative

The proposed community education program seeks to build capacity based upon a community survey completed in 2009 where residents strongly indicated they were willing to support initiatives devoted to improving lake water quality (2010, March, Lake Meader). A model Non-formal Environmental Educator Certification program, incorporating Best Management Practices (BMPs) for controlling lake pollution and stormwater runoff is the focus of the grant. Four Workshops that address the ecology of Lake Meade, accumulating to a Train-the-Trainers certificate, address non-point source pollution, Lake nutrients, data collection of stormwater runoff, impervious measurement of properties with remediation through bioswales, rain gardens, and riparian buffers to maintain/improve current lake ecology and enjoyment.
