Toolkit Manual

We are upgrading the navigation options for the Toolkit... please check out the manual for more details, and bear with us as we make these improvements!

Toolkit Basics

The Toolkit is a compilation of resources and ideas, currently organized under a step-wise framework for project development. Even if your project is already well established, we are confident that you can find something new and helpful within (read more About the Toolkit).

Each step organizes tools into six categories. You can choose to browse through step-by-step or to check out all of the resources in a particular category (see navigation details below).

Steps

As a current framework, Toolkit resources are organized in a step-wise approach. The steps below were articulated by staff at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, and refined with help from participants at the Citizen Science Toolkit Conference.

The links below will take you to the overview page for each step. From there you can navigate to categories within that step.

Categories

Within each step, Toolkit resources are organized into six different categories. These categories, and the information contained therein, are the results of working group reports generated during the Citizen Science Toolkit Conference. We welcome your contributions to these contents (learn how).

Clicking on a category below will take you to the overview page of that category, with an overview of the types of information it contains and links to that category's page for each step.

Navigating the Toolkit

The basic resource for navigating the Toolkit is the list of Toolkit Steps. This list outlines the contents of the Toolkit as a stepwise approach to project development. The list allows you to navigate directly to specific steps or categories. You can always access this list by clicking the globe at the bottom of any page.

Once in the Toolkit, you can orient to your location by three landmarks. Each step has a signature picture that will be seen on every category page within that step. The page title lists first the step and then the category within that step. In the navigation bar under the title, the shaded tab indicates the current category.

The subnavigation bar can help you learn more about the particular category. You can read background information on the category with the "Read About..." tab on the left. You can also remain within, in this example, the Tools category and navigate from step to step.
