My class has been studying birds since the beginning of school. We have seen House Sparrows, Mourning Doves, Starling, Blue Jays, House Finches, Crow, Nuthatches, Downy Woodpecker, Goldfinches, and Purple Finch. We have seen thirteen House Sparrows and twelve Mourning Doves. The most interesting birds are the Down Woodpecker, Nuthatches, and Blue Jays. The birds preen a lot, and fight, and hop around a lot. We made feeders out of pine cones, orange juice bottles, pop bottles and coffee cans. We made them by hand.

My favorite bird that we've seen and my favorite of all is the Downy Woodpecker, a very pretty bird.

For another project we were to make a flag of a state. One of the things our teacher said to do was to tell our state's bird. My state was Maryland and the bird was the Baltimore Oriole. It also is a very pretty bird.

We also made a map of where we fed the birds. We feed the birds in the butterfly garden in the front yard of the school.

I love to study birds, hope you do, too. They're very interesting, fun, and cool! If you don't know a lot about birds, learn them, or beg your teacher. Just learn about them!!
