The CLO Docent Program was founded in 2008 to increase the capacity of the Lab of Ornithology to provide engaging and thoughtful hands-on experiences to visitors through the efforts of trained and motivated volunteer docents.  We typically meet on the third Saturday of each month at the Lab of Ornithology Visitors' Center.

Volunteer docents are needed to help with tours and ongoing studies at the Lab of Ornithology and Sapsucker Woods.  Opportunities focus on interacting with the public, including leading birding tours of Sapsucker Woods and the Johnson Visitors’ Center, helping with educational activities and workshops, monitoring the trails, filling feeders, checking nest boxes, and answering the questions of an interested and motivated public.

Scheduling and commitments are flexible, but you should expect to spend 2-4 hours/month volunteering.  If you enjoy sharing the world of birding with visitors and want to a chance to learn and share more about the Lab, this volunteer position is for you.  To learn more about this opportunity, please contact our docent program coordinator at <clo_docents@cornell.edu>, and check out our docent homepage hosted by Google!
