| Study Protocol This study protocol has two parts. You may choose to conduct either or both protocols. The first involves general surveys to determine population status and habitat and area requirements of Golden-winged Warblers. The second is a series of 10-minute point counts using taped playback and visual ID to create a Hybrid Index Map. For the first part, you will go to known or suspected golden-wing breeding sites and for the Hybrid Index part you will select areas based on your Delorme State Atlas or Canadian topo map, selecting a minimum of 20 census points per Delorme page or topo. In order to conduct both parts, you will need to be familiar with suitable habitat characteristics, song types, and visual identification of golden-wings, blue-wings, and hybrids. Please remember that even though some of our protocols involve surveying for both golden-wings and blue-wings, the goal of the study is to collect data and answer questions related mostly to Golden-winged Warblers, so this species should be your primary concern when surveying or conducting your point counts. Please refer to the links below for details on the two protocols and for species
identification assistance. |
