Dear House Finch Disease Survey participant,
Thank you for joining us as we track the spread of mycoplasmal conjunctivitis in wild bird populations. The information you provide is critical in helping ecologists and epidemiologists determine how this disease affects the House Finch and American Goldfinch populations across the United States and Canada.
IMPORTANT: Your I.D. number appears above your name and address on the envelope in which you received your Research Kit. Please write down the I.D. number you will need it when submitting your data.
Your House Finch Disease Survey Research Kit includes an Instruction Booklet containing information on mycoplasmal conjunctivitis, and instructions for collecting data on the health of your neighborhood birds. Your kit also includes a supply of paper data forms for the next 9 months.
We invite you to explore the rest of this web site, as it contains information not found in the Research Kit. You may find the photos of sick birds especially helpful there are photos of birds with avian conjunctivitis and photos of birds with avian pox, a similar-looking disease.
If you have pictures of diseased birds:
If you have taken photos of birds with eye infections and are willing to share them with us, we would appreciate receiving copies. We will add them to our photo collection and may use them in our presentations or publications. Please send duplicates only (we cannot return items) and include your name, address, ID number, and date on each item you donate.
Thank you for your commitment to monitoring the health of wild bird populations. Please contact us if you have any questions or need more data forms.
