Student Information
This page is for current students of the Home Study Course
in Bird Biology.
REFERENCE TO "PART 2" (Page 1-66)
Please note that Part 2 was referenced on this page. This has caused a bit of confusion. It is a typo, and the reference was due to the fact that at one time our course textbook was actually sent in two parts (two three-ring binders), Part 1 and Part 2.
Part 1 consisted of Chapters 1 through 5, preceded by the BIRDS AND HUMANS supplement. Part 2 consisted of Chapters 6-10, preceded by the EVOLUTION supplement. The reference on page 1-66 refers to the EVOLUTION supplement, which can be found between Chapters 5 and 6 in the Handbook of Bird Biology.
BIRDER'S ESSENTIAL RESOURCE GUIDE (Chapter 2 supplement)
The Birder's Essential Resource Guide is a supplement to Chapter 2. Please click HERE to access it.
ACTUAL NUMBER OF BIRDS IN FIG. 2-38 (Chapter 2)
This information was accidentally omitted from the end of Chapter 2. The actual numbers of birds in Figure 2-38 are as follows: (a) 50, (b) 50, (c) 95, and (d) 80.
ELECTRONIC COPIES OF THE INDEX AND GLOSSARY (PDF Files)
Although an Index and a Glossary are both included within the printed materials, by request we are providing a link to a pdf version of each section for easy online access. Please click HERE to obtain a pdf copy of the Index, and click HERE to obtain a a pdf copy of the Glossary.
BIRD NAME PRONUNCIATION ASSISTANCE (Web Sites)
A great place to get (free) sound bytes of pronunciations for various words is the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online.
Also, our Chapter 1 Author Kevin McGowan has provided a lighthearted take on the difficulty in pronouncing a few miscellaneous bird names (a request for assistance that we receive frequently). Click HERE to go to his page.
