Species: Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) Location: Lake Barkley, KY Status: Inactive nest
April 24 - No sign of an Osprey yet, but a beautiful
shot of the sun on the water. To our dismay, the Ospreys ended up nesting in an adjacent
platform which did not have a camera connection.
April 20 - A pair of Eastern Kingbirds is perched on
the basket. The white-tipped tail is a key field mark in identifying these birds.
April 17 - While this is not a cavity-nester cam per
say, we have captured more images of Eastern Bluebirds on the basket perch than the
intended non-cavity-nesting Osprey!
April 16 - The lake bed has completely flooded but
still no signs of interested Ospreys.
March 30 - The lake bed is beginning to rise. Several
Ospreys have been seen in the vicinity of this platform.
March 18 - A Canada Goose decoy is placed on the steel
frame basket in order to test the image quality.
March 17 - First images from the Kentucky Osprey cam!
Notice the bluebird in flight. The steel frame basket sits about 25 feet above a soon-to-be-flooded lake bed.
