Cam Highlights:

Apr. 23 - By 9:40, all six young
have left the box. They will depend on their parents for food for the
next two to three weeks, after which time, they will have to fend for
themselves.

Apr. 23 - With rapid succession, the remaining five chickadees leave the nest box.

Apr. 11 - Since insects comprise
over 60% of the typical chickadee diet, they have proven to be an
important predator of numerous insect species including bees,
caterpillars, and ants.

Apr. 10 - Feeding six nestlings is a big job for the male and female Carolina Chickadee.
In fact, as the nestlings grow, the frequency increases from one
feeding per nestling per day at hatching to more than six feedings per
nestling per day by day 17.

Apr. 7 - The male and female
chickadees both participate in the feeding the nestlings. Fecal
sacs are removed from the nest by the breeding pair shortly after
bringing food to the young.

today at about 9:30 am! It typically takes two to three days from
the start of hatching phase until all of the eggs are hatched.

Apr. 4 - Incubation continues as
the male looks on. The male periodically feeds the female as she
sits on the eggs, although she will leave for brief periods to forage
for food.

nest cam host noted that the first egg was laid on March 19th, and with
a 14 day incubation period, hatching should begin soon.
