Nestbox is ready for a new start. This second nesting attempt has a much better chance because the weather is more normal than the several days of cold weather during the first nesting.
Best wishes....for success.

Since the eggs should have hatched about April 19, two weeks ago, the eggs certainly will not hatch. The female has not been observed at the nest in several days; therefore, the nest and eggs have been abandoned and will be removed from the nesting box. The nest is very unusual in that bluebird feathers are incorporated into the nest. CCES has a pertmit to display abandoned nests and eggs, so this special nest and eggs will become part of a school educational exhibit. TS/KBS/ER Cam hosts

Do you remove just the eggs or the whole nest?
The bluebirds in my nest box are almost done, 4 young, should I remove the whole nest or just leave it alone?

Wonder if there's time for a 2nd clutch if these are removed now?

Does the mother bluebird know that the eggs are possibly no good? And how long will she continue to roost if they aren't. I hope they are still good though.

A near-by KY school to the CCES cam nest is nest (West Hopkins Elementary School) with a live cam box sending images into their classroom, recently reported that the eggs in their cam box were covered over with new nesting material and new eggs have been laid. Another nest near-by at Dawson Springs has been abandoned with four bluebird eggs. The male is inspecting an empty nest box located near the abandoned nest. He is singing trying to attract a new mate. Evidently the cold did chill some of the first nest eggs in our area. Plans are to watch the CCES eggs and nest and see what happens. ER/KBS cam co-host

The very cold weather is over and we now have normal spring weather. None of us desires to see the loss of potential for normal life of such wonderful birds.
Most likely, the next attempt by this bluebird pair will be a success and then we can all rejoice.

Sad that the Kentucky BBs made it through the cold snap and these obviously did not. Hopefully, someone will remove the eggs within several days. Bluebirds will definately renest in the same Box. I had this same thing happen and since the nest was "clean", I took a "little off the top", left it in the box, the Female added a little Pinestraw to the top of the nest, and laid 4 new eggs.

It looks like this batch must have gotten too cold during the late cold spell. Hopefully she'll try again right away.

for a Californian, these are the most beautiful pictures of a bird that we here(in ca.) never get to see in real life

Noticed both KY School bluebird cams are down at this time. Last time this happened there was nothing fixable at the school cam site and images were restored outside of the school site. The problem is likely in the over-all region or statewide school system computer network. Hopefully the problem will go away soon. KBS Cam host ER.

My female laid her last of 5 eggs Apr 8 but my concern is the nights have been in the 20's here in SC going to the 50's during the day. The male still continues to come and go and I think (not sure) the female has started incubation. Does anyone know if this week of frigid temperatures will effect the hatching of the eggs?

So happy to see the bluebird on her nest this morning, it appears she is doing well!

Has the cam been turned off at all. The cam picture is black. It should be daylight by now in Kentucky where the cam is. Did something happen to the nest?

This mother bluebird will do "all possible" to provide for her family.
A cold spell like the next few days will be a tough time for her and the eggs.
Let's all pray for the best.

I was always told to remove the old nests from the bluebird boxes. I read that your research shows they prefer the old nests left in the boxes. Do they build the new nest on top of the old nest?

I love all these cams of different birds nesting! I am hoping soon when in the month of April here in NY, some bird species will start nesting.
