There was a power failure at the nature center today at 4:22, that's why the image hasn't refreshed. We should have it back up by tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll be able to catch that first flight tomorrow. We are vidoe taping the live video feed as well in case we miss it on the web cam! It is hard to get a sense on the internet how much they were moving around today. On the live feed we could see they were very active.
Anyone in Minnesota is welcome to stop by the nature center on Friday or Saturday to watch the live feed as we're having a big 24 hour BioBlitz event from 5:00 pm Friday to 5:00 pm Saturday.(June 8-9) Seeing the birds on a tv instead of one image every 30 seconds is incredible.

I see them all piled up tonight; 7:00 PM. Midwest time. I am glad they are still there now, for Minnesota will have stormy weather tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

from my experience. I have Phoebes under my front porch every year. They usually have two broods. The fledgelings will fly & stay close to the nest for a day or two but once out, they will usually not sleep there again. They will however hang close by with parents still feeding them.

this bird "family" the way the mother piles into the nest with them is so sweet.

The four nestlings are doing quite well at this point. The 5th egg did not hatch. The mother bird was banded a few weeks ago, so keep your eyes open for a silver band on her right leg. We are expecting the young to fledge around June 7.

Seeing her sit on top of her nestlings in that tiny nest is amazing. I hope we don't miss the fledge day, cuz it looks like it may be real soon.

This is a bird I am not at all familiar with. I realize of course that we are lucky to have them to look at and that hosts are volunteer, but I sure do wish there was a little more info with this nest site. The last daily highlite was the 16th and I'd love to have some of the questions posted by various people here answered. Actually any information about this nest would be appreciated. But it has sure been fun watching!

When can we expect these nestlings to fledge?
Thanks for any info.!

They have grown!. I can't imagine how the mother still fits in the nest!
05/25/07 20:43
finally a great shot of their mouths open and being fed, worth the wait!

Four birds have hatched and we're thinking the fifth is no good.

Is it certain that the eggs have hatched? I have not been able to actually see any of little guy's!
05/21/07 20:10
I think a couple of the eggs have hatched. From what I saw was a little bird beak in the nest with mom looking at her new babies.

I was wondering what role the father plays in helping with feedings ect., so it is nice to see the shot of the male and female in the nest together!

The bird seems to be on the nest incubating in the AM. more than in the PM.

The Eastern Phoebe is one of my favorite birds. Though they are of a "somber" color their song always reminds me of early spring. A pair nested in an abandoned building on the apple orchard that my parents owned 45 years ago. In Wisconsin they like to build their nests under the bridges of small creeks and rivers. Only a little ledge can provide enough "foothold" for a nest. Thanks TBN.

about the nest, it looks like it is not in a very safe location. Is this how and where they typically build their nests? it seems so odd! Thank you!
