Are we seeing a different area of the woods? When the cam pans out it shows some things not seen before.

Some Canada geese seem to always walk by around 6:00 PM Eastern time and "wave" at the camera.

They are still within range of the camera on ocassion; 3:50PM., Midwest time. It is nice to see them; the whole family. Is that what most Killdeer nestlings do? What is the area that they forage, away from the nest during the day?

I started watching at 7:00 am 5/27 Ohio time. I'm not seeing mom or little ones (did she have 4) Have they left the nest area and are now in the tall grass? Sure an glad I checked yesterday and got to see the chicks! BH/OH

What a terrific moment to observe, this mother has quite a job keeping these little guys close to her! They look identical to their parents! Thanks to TBN for this unique opportunity!

It must be close to 10:00 PM. now in NY. I can still see the parent on the nest. Will have to try and watch around sunrise tomorrow.

Just watched three little ones popping all over the place, mom got up for one second and all three scrambled around until mom came and herded them back up again

i just watched a fun scene from around 7:10-7:15pm eastern time. the two chicks went around and then came back to the nest. first one went under one wing then the other went under the other wing. then one switched and
plowed into the other side of "mom".

...of course I'm getting nothing done...does anyone know how long they'll stay at the nest site?
05/26/07 17:17
I was able to see 4 chicks; one close to the parent and 3 away from the nest!

I could tell by the way the parent bird was acting that maybe there was a threat nearby, a hawk or something. Sure enough though, a person walked by. It seems that everything is alright though.
05/26/07 16:33
...now who was out there scaring MOM!!!
05/26/07 16:18
Yes! Yes! I see them too. Nice!! Young birds that are able to leave the nest not long after hatching are PRECOCIAL compared to Ospreys, Owls and Bluebirds that are ALTRICIAL [al-TRISH-al].

A great view of the front of the killdeer showing all of her stripes, amazing!

I can see a small bird right nest to the mother, did the eggs hatch or is this some strange little bird with the mother!
05/19/07 18:09
It is really interesting to observe these birds nesting out in the open in their natural environment. How they can survive not being preyed upon is beyond me. Looking forward to hatching day!

Is this the famous sapsucker woods referenced in all the cornell materials?

Every time I look in on her (or him) she seems to be vigilantly scanning the area for possible threats. Adorable.

I don't see anything but a large gray box. Can anyone please help me.

When someone zooms out, it is very difficult to see the parents or the nest because they are so well camouflaged. If the problem becomes routine, we may remove the zoom features and just fix the camera on a good image of the nest.

To me, the image looks different in general than yesterday without any sign of parents. I wonder if perhaps the camera was moved or something??? I also don't understand how you could see geese and people when the image I see doesn't show any trees and appears to be quite a small area. Perhaps I don't have the camera control you have.

I can't make our the nest this morning, probably due to the morning lighting but I did spot a couple of Canadian geese in the foreground then a couple of people in the trees. This looks like a lovely setting.

This page has a great photo of female standing over four eggs. Average clutch size is 4.

The web site below states that the nest is scraped out so may not be visible at all...unless we could get an aerial view, not likely. But knowing the chicks are on their feet shortly after hatching and stay close to the nest for about a month should mean some very interesting viewing! Great cam and thanks!

about these birds nesting habits? Caption says parents incubating, does the male participate? Also is it know when the eggs are expected to hatch?

Killdeer, this is fantastic! Very hard to actually observe a killdeer's nesting spot in my area. I know they nest on the ground (or gravel roof tops) but I am also having trouble locating the nest, guess I'll have to wait till I see some movement - how exciting! (and a very cool web cam)

Try to use the "zoom" preset, located
below the video. It will zoom back
in on the nest. -Kitty

I can't see the nest either but it looks like it might be a good viewer. Maybe streaming? In any case killd's should be a lot of fun to watch, I love them.

I see nothing, but will check back. Hopefully there's just a temporary glitch!

Is it hard to see?
