I wonder why the nestbox monitor hasn't removed this nest. It's been weeks since the female abandoned it. Removal would have given the pair a place to rebuild.

found what I think is an Eastern Bluebird egg. Nest came down in storm, 1 egg is undamaged. 2 were broken. 1 egg looked as though 1/2 way through incubation time. How do I save this little critter? Is it possible? It is now in a shoe box with newspaper and it's own nest still intact. What do I do?

Has there been any nest activity since the 23rd?

I see the female in the new picture that is posted, is she still tying to incubate? could she have sensed danger and stayed away from the nest, or could this be a different bird?

if the last egg were to be removed, then she would have time to lay another clutch?

We hope the last egg survives? That is not possible when it is not being incubated, right? This site is affiliated with Cornell University, right?

Just saw the female a second ago inside.

is the egg being incubated at all? Every time I look - the egg is exposed?

Has anyone been able to figure out who took the eggs?
Poor mom and dad...but I guess that's a human emotion...however, I do think birds have a strong attachment and concern for one another. Several years ago..a pair of Blue birds nested in one of my boxes. Mom had laid 2 eggs..and then mysteriously disappeared. (I shudder to imagine what happened to her) Dad hung around for days...staying in the same tree above the box the majority of the day...calling for her...it broke my heart. I finally had to clean out the box...and buried the eggs in my "little" animal graveyard. Thankfully, a titmouse pair took over the box and raised healthy babies...but I'll never forget that BB pair!!

Its starting to get dark but I only see one egg now, half an hour ago there were still two in the nest. I'm fairly certain the hen has not been on the eggs since yesterday morning so I'm thinking there was no chance of hatching anyway, but maybe a look thru the photos will explain what is happening to the eggs.

I saw mom this morning but I've looked in several times in the last few hours and haven't seen her once. Has she given up on the remaining eggs?

Could possibly be the predator. They have just arrived in Georgia and destroyed 2 of my Bluebird Nestboxes.

It looks like there are only two eggs this morning. Something must have happened to the other two. Sad...

there is a nestbox that I am monitoring has 5 eggs! the female has just started incubation as well. I noticed that there are plenty of sparrow in the field although they haven't taken over the nest. I have heard that sparrow take over bluebird boxes. The sparrows haven't taken over the nest this year or last year. Do you have any ideas?

Tree swallows are still building there nest up at my grandmas. It has the cup shape to it meaning eggs are on the way! I am excited something is using a nest box this year!

should I get a nestbox for sparrows?

Assuming the fifth egg was a cowbird egg, does anyone know exactly how an egg is removed from the nest? I just cannot envision it.

Is one of the eggs missing? I clearly see 4 eggs.

The nest being built in my grandmas bluebird box are from tree swallows. Looks like we have some eggs on the way. There was a little more straw or fine grass in there today! Been approaching the nest box very carefully and watching for the swallows over head!

Check the bluebird box at my grandma's and there was a little light straw in there! It was not there before. This is the first time I checked the box. There were some barn swallows flying over heard so I don't know if it is a blue bird building a nest or them! Will check in a week or two!

Would eastern bluebirds be heading back to New York State to breed soon? They are our state bird and I think they should be coming soon from the south. My grandma has a wide field and my dad and I just put a blue bird box on a wooden stake out in the middle of the field. I really never seen bluebirds up there but are they around?

Did the 5th Egg appear this morning?

I agree, the picture is very bright. Easy to see, but very colorful.

Wish the image was a bit darker. Don't know if the host could control that.
Doesn't look like a cowbird egg to me.

I hope this is her own egg, and not a cowbird egg.

The nest looks pretty well finished to me. The center is "cupped out", and it looks like the fine grasses have already been put in, so let's hope we have eggs soon!

thanks tbn this all very exciting!!!

I hope the bluebird that is building the nest will have a good attempt to hatch the eggs.
