I'm watching as the last one prepares to leave the nest, is it possible to get some information regarding the environment surrounding the nest box?

They have really gotten much bigger and look more like tufted titmouses now. I'd imagine they will be fledging soon!

I love seeing those open mouths come up when the parents feed them food!

why do you think one of the eggs didn't hatch? Do you think it could be unfertile?

Seems like they are getting bigger everyday.

Is that the male and female side by side in the nest, or has another species invaded the nest? :(

I checked the box today to get a definite count on the young.

My dad and I made a chickadee bird box yesterday and placed it in some pine trees by my parents driveway. Chickadees are always going in those trees so I hope they will nest in the nest box when they start searching for a nesting site. Got the box facing kind of southeast. I think chickadees start nesting in the Northern Tier in May. I have been seeing chickdees chasing each other then coming to a stop all of a sudden. That gives me the idea they are breeding!

I've been checking for the last two days to try and see the chicks and finally caught her off the nest. I can't count the chicks very well but I'm pretty sure there is at least one unhatched egg.

Looks like more of the babys have hatched. Can't wait until those yellow beaks open up for food! It's just so cute!

it is great to see the male for the first time, and the eggs as they begin to hatch!

Does nesting season usually begin in the Northern part of the US in the month of April?

Do wood chips in bird boxes really attract nesting birds to nest boxes? I know birds will not use the wood chips as nesting material, but does the smell of them make them curious?

They came in on Thursday. Have one hung up on my old bedroom window. Hopefully I will get lucky. I am going to put food on top of the box or nesting material continully to help the birds discover it.

Does the male help out at all?

A titmouse just started building a nest in my nest box in my backyard. It looks like it will be busy in my yard this spring as a bluebird just finished its nest and a flicker is back for its third straight year. All this is on my 1/4 acre yard!

I see 6 but it's looks like there might be a seventh egg? Am I seeing things?
03/17/07 12:28
There are 6 eggs this morning, March 17. She still was not incubating during the day after laying this morning. She must be going to lay a seventh egg tomorrow which is not uncommon for my early Titmouse nests here. We had the time to adjust the camera lower and put a different roof on the box that lets in more light. I'm guessing she will lay a seventh egg tomorrow morning and then start incubating during the day.

There were three eggs this evening when I checked the box. I had checked on the 12th but missed the first egg. Titmice hide their eggs under nest material until they start incubation.

I think I could see her in the box tonight avoiding the stormy weather. Looking forward to some baby titmice!

I live in an apartment and I have a couple nest boxes on my deck with a feeder or two> I know birds do not like boxes next to feeders but is there a chance anyway? I have tufted titmouses, chickadees, chipping sparrows..etc. Is there a chance maybe if I put some nesting material out on my deck, one of those bird species might use the box?

Unfortunately, the images are just too dark for me to make them out.

I live in New York State and I was wondering when tufted titmouses start nesting in my region? I have another question, why do some birds nest in nest boxes one year then not use them after another?
