This picture of pinioned Brown-headed Nuthatch nestlings was sent to us by M. Killackey.

M. Killackey took this picture of inquisitive Brown-headed Nuthatch nestlings almost ready to fledge.

These White-breasted Nuthatch eggs are just a beginning to an amazing story of growing up.

When the White-breasted Nuthatch chicks hatch, they are blind and naked like all songbird species.

Even after hatching, the mother White-breasted Nuthatch will sit on the nest in order to keep her young warm.

Now, just about full grown, these chicks will soon be ready to fledge from the nest.
After watching Red-breasted Nuthatches in his yard for years, Kevin Smith, of Oregon, was thrilled to finally have them nest there. He noted that the pitch, seen here on the side of the nest box, covered the entire front of the box as well.

Leslie Clapp sent us this photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch on one of her nest boxes in Maine.

Portia Shao submitted a series of photos of this Pygmy Nuthatch in her birdbath in California.

The shallow water, gradual sloping sides, and textured bottom of this birdbath are all features of a good birdbath.

It looks like this Pygmy Nuthatch is taking full advantage of a great birdbath!

These White-breasted Nuthatch nestlings were photographed by Don McCartney who monitors a number of nest boxes in Oregon.
