Criteria for Project Submissions
What types of projects are we looking for?
We are currently accepting original projects from nest monitors in the form of electronic manuscripts. We will highlight
some of the great work that nest monitors do on behalf of
birds by placing their projects on our web site so that Internet viewers can
learn from their experiences.
We encourage anyone who has conducted some
type of experiment, however small, to share their work. Please note, we are not
looking to get pages and pages of nest data. While data are valuable, we hope that they are already represented in our database. We are looking
for examples of scientific experiments, which began as a question or problem that a
nest monitor was trying to answer or solve. We'd also like to highlight
significant outreach efforts by nest monitors who may have been responsible
for setting up neighborhood trails or monitoring programs.
- Start with an introduction...what problem or questions were you trying to solve?
- What
methods did you use in setting up the project? Be as specific as possible
here so others could conduct the same type of
experiment.
- What kinds of results did you get? In your opinion, describe what the end result was. No need for sophisticated statistics, just a summary based on your observations.
- Finally, conclusions...would you do anything different in the future? Do you have additional recommendations for people about conducting this type of experiment?
If you are unsure about whether something is suitable, feel free to email us at nestwatch@cornell.edu. We also encourage submission of photographs, charts etc., which may lend visual enhancement to the text. If you submit a project, your name, city, and state will be listed unless you prefer to remain anonymous.
Thank you in advance for your contribution.
