Electricity powers our lives. Even as we thrive on energy technology, we recognize costs to air, water quality, habitat, and climate due to exploration, drilling, and processing fossil fuels into energy, and the costs of even the best alternative technologies as well.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology scientists are researching how oil and gas exploration affects whales and African forest elephants, how acid rain affects forest birds, how climate change affects winter birds, how to minimize hazards to birds at wind turbines, and more. Working with partners from government, industry, and other organizations, and armed with sound scientific data, the Lab helps achieve positive changes that will benefit us all.
