Holiday Hours
Closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and December 24-January 2. Open 10:00 A.M.–4:00 P.M. on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and the day after Thanksgiving. Open until 4:00 P.M. November 23.

Located just minutes away from the Cornell Lab, the Courtyard by Marriott offers Lab visitors special reduced rates starting at $109. This rate is based on availability and subject to change. Free shuttle service is available to and from the Cornell Lab by appointment on the hour from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Please call 866-541-3600 and ask for the Lab of Ornithology visitors' rate, or visit the Courtyard by Marriott website.

About the Catalog
The catalog includes more than two centuries of work in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s art collection. Images in the public domain can be enlarged for viewing at a larger size. When using the catalog,
- Search for a bird species by clicking on “search” and selecting “by keywords.” (If you know the exact full common name, you can search “by common name.”)
- To view all the images that are in the public domain, click on “group,” then “open group,” then “Public Domain 2008.”

Search for an artist:
Select “Search” and choose "By Artist" in the menu. Type the last name of the artist. Click on the name of the artist you want. Only the works of that artist will appear on the screen.
Find information:
To read the catalog information, select the work by clicking once on the thumbnail you want. The item will be outlined in white. Select the word “data” on the left side of the screen to see the information about that work.
Return to “entire collection”
If you selected a special group of images to view but would like to return to the entire collection, select “search,” then choose “show all” in the menu.

About Our Collection
Tree Swallow by Louis Agassiz Fuertes
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s collection includes work by artists who strove to depict birds accurately through scientific observation and illustration, while also conveying the beauty and wonder of birds.
“I’ve never been able to disassociate painting from bird study,” said artist George Miksch Sutton. “It’s all the same thing.”
With more than 1,000 works of art, the collection includes extensive pieces by Louis Agassiz Fuertes, known as one of the finest bird portraitists in history. The collection also features work by John James Audubon, John Gould, and Alexander Wilson, as well as of recent artists, including Charley Harper, Robert Mengel, and Tony Angell.
