About the Photographer

My entry into photography came about as a necessity for work. In the early 80s I was a commercial diver in Borneo. Using a Nikonos III underwater camera to record damage and inspection results, I became enamored with photography. I really didn’t get serious about photographing nature and wildlife until 1986. That is when I purchased my first Super Telephoto lens.

Now, living in West Texas, I try to photograph whenever I get the chance. For the last two years however, I’ve been working on setting up a pomegranate farm and it has really taken time away from photography.

One of the toughest aspects of working as a nature photographer in my area is the downright skittishness of the wildlife here. One has to work very hard to get close enough to an animal to record detail.

I consider myself a wildlife portrait photographer. I find the true beauty of wildlife photography in the details of the creature. As luck would have it, one of the migratory birds coming through our area every year is the Painted Bunting. If we are not suffering from drought conditions, we’ll get a good number of them nesting in our area. This is one my favorite species to photograph, but there are plenty of other interesting species here in Texas as well.
