How to
select your Count Days
The FeederWatch season
traditionally starts on the second Saturday in November. Find out when your first Count Period begins.
If you enter data online,
count your birds every week. Just make sure that your counts are at least
5 days apart and that you count for two days in a row (you may decide to count every
Tuesday and Wednesday, for example). You may submit up to 20 bird counts from November
through April.
if you submit data on paper,
count your birds every other week . Just make sure that your counts are
at least 7 days apart and that you count for two days in a row (you may decide to count
every other weekend, for example). You may submit up to 10 bird counts from November
through April.
Select your FeederWatch Count
Days in advance and try your best to stick with them. Dont change your
Count Days just because you see remarkable numbers or kinds of birds. Doing so would bias
your data.
Watch for as long as you can
during your two Count Days. You dont need to get up early or watch
continuously-many people observe before and after work, or they count for five minutes at
the top of every hour. If you cant count for two days in a row, that is okay, but
try to count longer on your single Count Day.
Even if you watch only 10 minutes during
your entire Count Period, your data are still valuable. Please send them in. |
