Sharp-shinned Hawks

Ken Kranik sent us the photo on the left, complete with measurements of the branches and the distance between them (10"), so that we could assist him in identification.
The straight edge to the end of the tail, the proportionally small head, and the hooded rather than capped appearance helps to identify these Sharp-shinned Hawks. Although size often overlaps between Sharpies and Cooper's Hawks, extremes in size can sometimes provide an additional identification clue.
