One of the major problems encountered during field recording is handling noise. This noise is transmitted through the body of the microphone and is recorded along with the primary sound of interest. There are various shock-mount systems available that are designed to reduce this interference. An inexpensive and somewhat universal model is the Audio Technica AT-8415 that sells for about $50. An alternative to buying a shock-mount is to build your own.
